Blue Bikes Ride Pink 2025

NEW ORLEANS – During Breast Cancer Awareness Month, New Orleans residents, visitors and tourists can show their support by riding pink on a Blue Bike.

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana (Louisiana Blue) is partnering with Blue Krewe, the nonprofit operator of Blue Bikes, to sponsor the annual Ride Pink promotion. Throughout October, nearly one-third of the Blue Bikes fleet will sport pink baskets with custom designs reminding riders that preventive breast cancer screening is important. See attached image for 2025 Ride Pink basket design.

“Blue Krewe is thrilled to be partnering with Louisiana Blue for the fifth year on this Ride Pink campaign! We feel lucky to be able to operate as a transportation option as well as a fun way to encourage health and wellness. We are excited to keep rolling forward with raising breast cancer awareness,” said Leo Fraser, Blue Krewe executive director.

Riders who spot a pink bike this October can share their photos on social media and tag Blue Bikes, @BlueBikesNOLA. Anyone who makes a Ride Pink post and tags Blue Bikes during October will be entered in a prize drawing to win a one-year Blue Bikes membership ($300 value). There is no limit on entries – you can post as many times as you ride a pink bike.

Follow Blue Bikes on social media (@BlueBikesNOLA) or visit BlueBikesNOLA.com for more information on how to create your account and be ready to ride.

Why NOLA Rides Pink

According to the American Cancer Society, death rates from breast cancer have declined 44% in the past 35 years. A big factor is increased awareness of the need for regular mammograms and other preventive screenings or tests. These screenings can catch breast cancer in its earliest stages, before it spreads to other areas of the body and is easier to treat successfully.

“We are proud to sponsor the #RidePinkNOLA promotion for a fifth year. The pink bikes are a visual reminder of the importance of making time to get screened. Not only for yourself, but to remind your sister, your best friend, your mother, your grandmother or even the men in your life who have a family history of breast cancer to have a checkup, ask their doctors about their risk factors and schedule any preventive screenings they recommend,” said Rod Teamer, Louisiana Blue director of Connection and Belonging and a Blue Krewe board member.

Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers diagnosed in the United States. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, one in eight women will develop breast cancer in her lifetime. While most cases are diagnosed in women 60 and older, younger women and men are also affected.

Health officials generally recommend women begin regular mammogram screening at age 40. But, recommendations can vary based on your family and medical history, so it’s important to have at least one wellness visit per year with your healthcare provider and ask when you should begin screening. Men with a significant family history of breast cancer may also need preventive screening and should ask their doctors for recommendations.
