Louisiana Blue Volunteers Pack More Than Half a Million Meals in Support of Statewide Campaign to Restock Food Banks

Feb. 25, 2026

Volunteers at Dillard University gather for MLK pack party.
BATON ROUGE, La. – Since January, more than 2,000 volunteers from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana (Louisiana Blue), Entergy Louisiana, Healthy Blue Louisiana and other organizations packed more than half a million red beans and rice meals, including Louisiana-grown rice donated by Cajun Country Rice.

Volunteers participated in 10 statewide pack parties in each region of Louisiana to assemble the meals, which supported the second Million Meals for MLK campaign from Volunteer Louisiana and Feeding Louisiana. The meals will be distributed through food banks and other organizations fighting hunger to share with families in need.

“We are grateful to our employees and the volunteers from other sponsoring organizations and community partners who came together to live out Martin Luther King Jr.’s spirit of service,” said Michael Tipton, Louisiana Blue Foundation president and vice president, Community Relations. “After the holiday season and severe winter weather in areas of the state, the food banks needed our donations of time, money and meals to restock shelves and keep providing for families in need.”

Volunteer Louisiana and Feeding Louisiana will soon share the statewide results of the Million Meals for MLK campaign, which ran through January into early February.

There are many ways Louisianians can share, serve and support local food banks year-round. Visit MillionMealsforMLK.org to find events near you, donate to your local food bank and see how you can help.
